Healthy Hearing During the Holidays!

Tis’ the season for healthy hearing! It’s that time of year again, where families gather together and create lasting memories. During the holiday season, those who struggle with hearing loss can find themselves missing out on family conversations during this time of cheer. Isolation and social anxiety are possible health conditions that can stem from hearing loss, and this can greatly affect the holidays for those families. To get prepped, prepared, and pumped for this upcoming holiday season, we want to share a few tips to help you relish in countless conversations all season long!

1. Get Your Hearing Checked

By far, the most important tip is to stop letting another year of struggling to hear go by. Visit with your Cedar Park audiologist to get your hearing checked if you feel that hearing has become a challenge for you. This is the first step towards enjoying your family gatherings, as well as towards healthy hearing!

2. Get Proper Adjustments Done Ahead of Time

If you already wear hearing aids, ensure they are functioning optimally prior to the holiday season. Visit your preferred hearing aid practice to make any last-minute adjustments and cleanings so you can enjoy effortless hearing, even in a bustling environment.

3. Take a Break

Remember that it’s okay to step outside or into a quiet room to take a minute to relax. While hearing aids are extremely helpful during the holidays, constantly trying to focus on certain conversations in noisy environments can get exhausting. Taking 5 to 10 minutes to recharge yourself is recommended to make sure you fully enjoy time with your family.

4. Be Open About Your Struggles

It’s important to have open and honest communication with your family members about what your needs are. Asking others to repeat themselves or requesting a move to a quieter environment are examples of having open communication about your hearing! Remember, your family wants you to hear them just as much as you do.

Make the Most of Your Holiday Season

These tips are just a few of many great things you can do to help get you prepared for the holidays. Create lasting memories with your loved ones at the dinner table, and be sure to take minor breaks when needed. Remember, the holidays are meant for cheer, joy, and family gathering, not isolation. If you or a loved one needs an adjustment, tune-up, or to test their hearing give us a call today!
